So Long
Double Chin

Free Consultation

Double chins have met their match.

Double the chins, double the self-consciousness. Sometimes they’re an inevitable trait passed down through family. Sometimes they’re the last thing to go after dieting and getting toned. Either way, they can be treated with Kybella®, the first FDA-approved injectable treatment to reduce fat under the chin.

Kybella® is a non-surgical procedure that mimics the body’s natural fat-absorption process, so you can skip the liposuction. The injection contains a man-made form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring material that helps the body absorb fat. So in no time, your double chin will be a thing of the past. And, so will any issues of self-doubt.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a man-made form of deoxycholic acid (a naturally occurring material that helps the body absorb fat) that destroys the fat cells contributing to double chins. So, in no time, your double chin will be a thing of the past. Kybella® injections basically mimic the body’s natural fat-absorption process, so you can skip the liposuction.

How does Kybella® work?

Formerly known as ATX-101, Kybella® is a synthetic version of the naturally occurring molecule deoxycholic acid, which is produced by the human body to break down and absorb dietary fats. When Kybella® is injected into the subcutaneous (beneath the skin) fat of the submental (under the neck) region, the membranes of the targeted fat cells are destroyed. Once destroyed, the cells are no longer able to store fat. The destruction of these cells is then followed by the body’s natural elimination and healing process. This process is slow but steady, and the fat cells are typically removed from the area within four to six weeks.

On which part of the body can Kybella® be used?

Currently, Kybella® has only been approved for use on double chins. Because Kybella has been shown to be most effective on small sections of fat, it’s not a viable option for treating issues like love handles or muffin tops, though the FDA is researching its potential benefits for these areas.

How long do results from Kybella last?

Once Kybella destroys fat cells, they’re gone forever, which means the results from the injections are permanent. In the clinical trials used by the FDA, even patients who experienced weight gain after receiving Kybella didn’t see the return of their double chins. Still, you should always strive to maintain a healthy weight to maximize the results.

What are the possible side effects?

The most common side effects include swelling, bruising and discomfort following the procedure. Serious side effects are quite rare but may include nerve injuries in the jaw that may cause facial weakness, as well as trouble swallowing. In clinical trials, however, most people described simply feeling “tender” four hours after the treatment. Ice and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications can be used to effectively reduce pain and swelling.

Does Kybella® hurt?

Comfort levels vary by client. If you feel you may be sensitive to injections, you can have your submental area numbed to reduce discomfort. In clinical trials, pain and swelling decreased over subsequent sessions. Pain and swelling can be managed by oral analgesics, topical anesthetics, injectable anesthetics, and ice. Clients who are opposed to injections may want to consider CoolSculpting on the submental area as an alternative.

How much does Kybella® cost?

The cost depends on you and your needs. Everyone’s a little bit different. It’s important to come into our clinic for a complimentary consultation and discuss exactly what your needs are. We will customize a package just for you.

Who should or shouldn't receive Kybella® treatments?

While many people are good candidates to receive Kybella® injections, you should talk to your Ideal Image consultant or doctor. During your consultation at Ideal Image, you’ll be asked a series of questions regarding your health history, existing health conditions, allergies and whether or not you may be pregnant, as all of these factors could have an effect on how your body responds to treatment. Kybella® should only be used by adults 18 and over. The best candidates for Kybella® have moderate submental fullness, good skin quality with minimal laxity and are willing and able to follow post-treatment recommendations.
