KYBELLA®

Reduce your double chin without surgery.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is the first and only FDA-Approved injectable to improve the appearance of fat beneath the chin by physically destroying fat cells.

Kybella is a new injectable treatment that melts away the excess fat that causes double chins. The substance is a man-made form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring material that helps the body absorb fat. Double chins can be a pesky problem area, but with Kybella you can destroy the fat cells contributing to this unflattering phenomenon.

If you've tried every diet and exercise plan imaginable but still struggle with unwanted neck and chin fat, you aren't alone. Many people who eat healthy and have no problem toning their arms, legs and abs still find it difficult to eradicate the fat around their submental area. This low hanging, fleshy region is often referred to as a "double chin."

With Kybella, you can eliminate the need for liposuction or other invasive fat-elimination techniques. Through a series of injections, Kybella mimics the body's natural fat-absorption process and leaves you with a sleek and slim chin area that's picture perfect.

HOW DOES KYBELLA WORK?

Formerly known as ATX-101, Kybella is a synthetic version of the naturally occuring molecule deoxycholic acid, which is produced by the human body in our own intestines for the break down and absorbtion of dietary fats. This breakthrough treatment has been the focus of a global program involving over 20 clinical studies involving over 2,600 patients.

When Kybella is injected into the subcutaneous (beneath the skin) fat of the submental (under the neck) region, the membranes of the targeted fat cells are destroyed. Once destroyed, the cells are no longer able to store fat. The destruction of these cells is then followed by the body's natural elimination and healing process. This process is slow but steady, and the fat cells are typically removed from the area within 4 to six weeks after receiving injections.

The number of treatments required varies based on your desired chin profile, however after the desired aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment is not expected.

Without the fullness associated with fat cells in the double chin region, guests treated with Kybella may achieve a younger, leaner, look, as a result of a more balanced facial appearance.

KYBELLA FAQ's

Q:

Which areas of the body can be treated using Kybella?

A:

Currently, Kybella has only been approved for use on double chins. Because Kybella has been shown to be most effective on small sections of fat, it's not a viable option for treating issues like love handles or muffin tops, though the FDA is researching its potential benefits for these areas.

Q:

Does Kybella hurt?

A:

Comfort levels vary by guest. If you feel you may be sensitive to injections, you can have your submental area numbed to reduce discomfort. In clinical trials, pain and swelling decreased over subsequent sessions. Pain and swelling can be managed by oral analgesics, topical anesthetics, injectable anesthetics, and ice. Guests who are opposed to injections may want to consider CoolSculpting on the submental area as an alternative.

Q:

How long do results from Kybella last?

A:

Once Kybella destroys fat cells, they're gone forever, which means the results from the injections are permanent. In the clinical trials used by the FDA, even patients who experienced weight gain after receiving Kybella didn't see the return of their double chins. Still, you should always strive to maintain a healthy weight to maximize the results.

Q:

Is Kybella safe?

A:

Kybella was deemed safe after the FDA conducted thorough clinical trials with patients who had moderate to severe submental fat. It has been proven safe in over 20 clinical trials involving 1,600 patients and is a great option for eliminating double chins when administered by a trained professional.

Q:

What are the side effects of Kybella?

A:

The most common side effects include swelling, bruising and discomfort following the procedure. Serious side effects are quite rare, but may include nerve injuries in the jaw that may cause facial weakness, as well as trouble swallowing. In clinical trials, however, most people described simply feeling "tender" four hours after the treatment. Ice and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications can be used to effectively reduce pain and swelling.

Q:

Who should or shouldn't receive Kybella treatments?

A:

While many people are qualified to receive Kybella injections, you should talk to your Ideal Image consultant or doctor about whether you'd be a good candidate. During your consultation at Ideal Image, you'll be asked a series of questions regarding your health history, existing health conditions, allergies and whether or not you may be pregnant, as all of these factors could have an effect on how your body responds to treatment. Kybella should only be used by adults 18 and over. The best candidates for Kybella have moderate submental fullness, good skin quality with minimal laxity and are willing and able to follow post-treatment recommendations.
